"Island of Dust" is the new album from talented multi-instrumentalist Nick Parkin, a London, England musician well known for his collaborations with TUU on their 1997 albums "Terma" & "Mesh" (Fathom) as well as his participation in the group Stillpoint on their 1995 album "Maps Without Edges" (City of Tribes).
Listening to "Island of Dust" brings to mind dark textural soundscapes & desolate windswept landscapes. Layered instrumentals create a brooding evocation of a harsh terrain harboring mythical subterranean regions, glimpsing sunken eroding fragments exposed by light & wind.
Nick Parkin works freelance as a musician & composer for dance & theatre companies in the UK & Europe. His work has primarily involved using acoustic instruments in combination with electronics & synthesizers, samples & effects processors. He also uses prerecorded material derived from instrumental & environmental sounds. Much of his work is evocative of elemental & landscape themes.
This is Nick Parkin's second solo project. Besides the aforementioned collaboration albums he released "Descent" (Hic Sunt Leones) in 1996.
